Founded in 2017 in Auckland, New Zealand, BLACK MANDALA is a leading production and international sales company specializing in high-quality genre films. Established by Michael Kraetzer and Nicolas Onetti, the company has built a strong global presence in film sales, production, and distribution.

Our Founders & Vision

Michael has been active in the film industry since 1993, founding multiple distribution companies across Germany, Australia, New Zealand, and the UK. After years in distribution, his production career began in 2007, with standout titles such as the cult horror Inbred (2011) and Nightmare Radio (2019), which earned accolades like “Anthology of the Year” and a Top 10 Films of 2019 ranking. He has produced films across New Zealand, the UK, Germany, France, and the USA.

Nicolas has been a successful producer in Argentina since 2013, establishing himself as a key figure
in Latin American genre cinema. Together, Michael and Nicolas made their filmmaking debut with
What the Waters Left Behind (2017), setting new standards for Latin American horror. The film
premiered at Cannes’ Marché du Film and won multiple awards at top-tier genre festivals, including
Sitges, Morbido, and Obscura.

BLACK MANDALA is dedicated to developing and producing visually captivating, globally resonant genre films while also managing international sales for both in-house productions and third-party titles.

Frightfest, TIFF, BIFFF, BIFAN, and many more, ensuring high visibility for our films. Our team actively participates in all major film markets, maintaining direct relationships with over 10,000 international buyers, distributors, and industry leaders.
